GREGORY AIN (1908-1988)
PARK PLANNED HOMES, ALTADENA CA

The Park Planned development was designed in collaboration with Eckbo, Royston and Williams. This was one of the first Modernist housing developments in the country. 60 units were planned but only 28 were built, due to material shortages and theft. This community as a groundbreaking social experiment, with affordable prefabricated homes for working families. The neighborhood was designed to feel like a park, with continuous landscaping, no front fences, and innovative features like side-facing garages, interior courtyards, and expansive glass walls. The result was a community that redefined suburban living, with homes that felt like intimate mini estates while fostering a sense of connection to nature and neighbors.  21 of the 28 were destroyed in the 2025 Eaton Fire.
