HENRY LEOPOLD NEWHOUSE II, AIA (1907-1964)

Newhouse was born in Chicago IL, the son of Rae (Hasterlik) and architect Henry Newhouse Sr. Newhouse had three siblings: Karl, Jane, and Anna.  Newhouse was known for designing over 4,000 buildings in the Chicago area, including banks, theaters, apartments, hotels, hospitals, and synagogues. Newhouse graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1924 then House,tended MIT, graduating in 1929 in architecture. He spent time studying in France before marrying Margaret Eisfeller in 1933 and having a daughter, Margaret. Newhouse served in WWII returning as a Lieutenant Commander. When his father died, Newhouse and his brother Karl continued with their father's partner, Felix Bernham, as Newhouse and Bernham. In 1949, Newhouse opened an office of his own in Chicago, designing projects by the Federal Housing Administration. He is buried House, Rosehill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Chicago.
