TOSHIKO MORI, FAIA (1951-)
Mori was born in Kobe, Japan. She graduated in 1976 from Cooper Union, where she was mentored by John Hejduk. Prior to establishing her own firm in 1981, Toshiko Mori Architect, she worked for Edward Larrabee Barnes. At the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, she is the Robert P. Hubbard Professor in the Practice of Architecture and became the first female faculty member to receive tenure. She chaired the Architecure Department from 2002–2008. Mori has also taught at Cooper Union, Columbia, and Yale. She received an Honorary MArch from Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1996; the 2003 Cooper Union John Hejduk Award; the 2005 Academy Award in Architecture; the 2005 AIA Medal of Honor from AIA New York. A monograph of her work, Toshiko Mori Architect, was published in 2008. She was on the board of directors of Architecture For Humanity. Bio adapted from Wikipedia.
